Bold move, on the internet these days, to suggest men are fundamentally different, Lee! Quips aside, nicely framed evidence that men (anyone, really) may skew passive-aggressive when they aren't self-actualized. (I use those two terms as a layman, feel free to correct my presumed definitions.)
One consideration is that the economy has modernized faster than societal expectations, leaving men uncertain.
Where traditionally one may have had a simpler set of two broad options - a trade or white-collar - one now is exposed to a bewildering array of ways to make money and/or be fulfilled... or to fail at either. There's scant guidance during one's teens or university years on how to assess them for personal appropriateness.
